Insights from synthetic seismogram modelling study of oceanic lower crust and Moho Transition Zone

The Moho discontinuity is one of the fundamental boundaries on Earth, separating crust from upper mantle. Arrival times seismic reflection and refraction data are used to estimate depth Moho, but nature remains illusive. We present a synthetic seismogram modelling study for suite possible velocity models oceanic lower transition zone (MTZ). For modelling, we have 45-km long multichannel streamer (MCS) geometry, get insight about waveforms amplitudes phases like crustal (Pg), (PmP) mantle (Pn), interactions between these phases. find that PmP not only depends structure MTZ also triplication resulting three arrivals its lateral extent mainly depend in crust. Apart crust, critical distance arrival gradient MTZ. amplitude versus offset analysis wide-angle indicates there two broad high peaks thickness less than or equal dominant wavelength large narrow peak thicker Consequently, strong thick lie range around whereas they over sharp Moho. modelled seismograms structures Oman Bay Islands ophiolites.
